In the dark and aimless space, an overwhelming endless race stretches me beyond repair.
A gentle whisper shouts endless truths throughout, echoing, “Come, draw near.”
Yet the fight remains, crippling fatigue and pain, deafening the battle’s aim.
A dim shaft of light, casting my shadow’s plight, reveals the staggering shame.
I am but a man – tattered, defaced, and torn, unable to keep the pace.
Deprived of hope, emptied of words I choke, devoid of any case.
Every attempt to run increasingly left undone, nothing left to do.
I await my end, knowing it comes and then, I’m reminded of what is true.
Out of the faint clear, a gentle whisper I hear, “Come, draw near.”
It crowds my thoughts and calms my pace, helping me to see;
That all the while I placed myself in torment over me.
Now my steps, pure and swift, come with such ease,
I listen for the whisper’s voice
And quietly release.
Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV
