The Book of Life

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

Let God’s Word wreck you. You’ll be better for it.

Correction, criticism, and direction are hard to accept. Our dreams, ideas, and desires overshadow any opposing thoughts, even if they come from the Bible. This is why it is so important for Christians to understand the war that wages in the soul. For the follower to live the life that God intends they must become comfortable with discomfort. God’s Word will judge, break, tear, bend, and repair the soul. The life filled with scripture is a life filled with hope. Let God’s Word wreck you. You’ll be better for it. Read this poem as it echoes these truths.

Under turned page
Is life and meaning
Explored and embraced.

A birth, a blessing
That captures the heart
And sets it free.

Every page a journey,
Every thought a key,
A step so surreal.

When the Book is closed
Not all is lost
It breathes with anticipation.

Questions:
What is keeping me from spending more time in the Word?

Is there time I can set aside to let God’s word shape me?

How can I make sure reading God’s word becomes a priority?

Prayer:
Father, thank you for your pursuing me. Grow a desire in my life to pursue you. I want your word to shape me. My thoughts are silly compared to yours. Help me to recall your word in good times and bad.
