“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
Have you ever put your hope in a person, cause, or religion? The end result is always the same. The person fails, the cause disappoints, and the religion weighs you down. When we put our hope in things we are essentially saying that our hearts affections are fixed on something other than God. God is not our first love. This poem echoes the struggle we face when we don’t love God completely.
CHAOS
Painful life not concealed,
Broken hearts are our seal,
Second chances are revealed,
The chaos of our heart.
Busy minds consume ideals,
Lonely eyes disguise our thrills,
Starved images so it feels,
The chaos of our soul.
All is known but torn apart,
The search for truth in the dark,
Hope for peace but never start,
The chaos of our mind.
Empty touch scares the blind,
Tainted thoughts mislead the mind,
Weighted dreams depress our kind,
The chaos of our strength.
Meditation:
How do things keep you from loving God?
How can God keep you from loving things?
Prayer
God, I want to love you with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I have neglected you. I choose you. I will fix my affectations on you alone. Thank you for understanding my struggles. I love you. Amen.
